we created time that does not breathe;
fitting then, that we, heavy in our bodies,
play counterweight to these
tallies of our breaths,
that we move to fill the spaces on a dial,
see it snatched, used against us.
an irony of naming:
hands, face – in the hope time touches lightly,
smiles kindly – we know what we do.
the sweeping movement,
the red hand –
a new pulse at my wrist.
